Health Surveillance

Health surveillance is a system of ongoing health checks. These health checks may be required by law for employees who are exposed to noise or vibration, ionising radiation, solvents, fumes, dusts, biological agents and other substances hazardous to health, or work in compressed air.

It can include various types of tests.

• Skin health surveillance

• Audio health surveillance

• Respiratory health surveillance

• Display Screen Assessments

• HAVS health surveillance 

• Biological Monitoring

Health surveillance should be carried out at least annually. It should start at the beginning of employment so employers and employees have a baseline measurement of health to ensure work is not causing an ill health effects.

Through your Risk Assessments

You should strongly consider occupational health surveillance if your employees are at risk from:

• noise or vibration

• solvents, dusts, fumes, biological agents and other substances hazardous to health

• asbestos, lead or work in compressed air

• ionizing radiation
